The German magazine "Der Spiegel" looks beyond its borders and comments: "Rightward shift in Switzerland: The SVP relied on anti-migrant rhetoric - and according to projections, they have achieved 29 percent in the parliamentary election. The losers are the Greens." In the Swiss federal elections, the Swiss People's Party (SVP) focused on its traditional platform of limiting immigration. Their campaign posters featured anti-migrant slogans and calls to close the Swiss borders. According to the third exit poll, the SVP gained 3.3 percentage points, giving them 61 of the 200 seats in the National Council. The Green Party, however, lost 4 percentage points, dropping from 13.2% in the 2019 election, which was heavily influenced by climate discussions, to 9.2%. Experts believe that the elections will have little impact on the political decisions made in Switzerland in the coming years, as more important are the quarterly referendums on specific topics, which limit the scope of action of the government and parliament. ©Keystone/SDA
