The Swiss Federal Parliament must disclose income from secondary activities, according to the State Political Commission of the Council of States (SPK-S). This follows a proposal from Lisa Mazzone (Green/GE), which the SPK-S supported with a 7-4 vote. The members must disclose the range of compensation they receive for each secondary activity, but not their income from their primary job. The majority believes that this additional transparency will strengthen the public's trust in the Parliament. The minority, however, believes that this increased transparency is not compatible with the principle of a militia parliament. It is expected that members will engage in professional activities and take on mandates in addition to their political engagement.
