Swiss citizens often order illegal products when shopping online abroad. Customs carried out a major inspection in the Zurich area and seized heaps of medicines, counterfeit brands and weapons.
The inspection took place at ten different locations in the greater Zurich area, as reported by the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) on Thursday. In total, staff seized almost 700 parcels containing illegal goods.
The frontrunners were medicines, especially erectile stimulants. Counterfeit brands were also frequently found in the foreign packages. In third place were weapons, especially Kubotan, a Japanese baton, imitation weapons and knives. Pistols were also occasionally found in the foreign packages.
