Evi Allemann, the Bernese Government Councillor and former National Councillor of the Swiss Socialist Party (SP), has announced her candidacy for the Swiss Federal Council. She is the first woman to apply for the position, which is currently held by Alain Berset. Allemann has been a member of the Swiss Parliament since 2003 and has served as a Government Councillor in the Canton of Bern since 2016. She has also held various positions in the SP, including as a member of the party's executive committee. Allemann has stated that she is committed to continuing Berset's work in the areas of health, social security, and the environment. She also plans to focus on the challenges posed by digitalisation and the need to ensure equal opportunities for all.
