The Swiss hotel industry welcomed more guests in June than in the previous year. The hotel industry thus remains on course to beat the overnight stay record set in 2023.
In the first month of summer, 1.8% more overnight stays were recorded than a year ago, as the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) announced on Monday based on an initial estimate. From January to May, the number of overnight stays rose by 2.4 percent to 16.0 million.
The hotel industry therefore remains on course to beat last year's record of 41.8 million overnight stays for the year as a whole. However, with the summer vacations, the seasonal peak phase for tourism is still to come.
More foreign guests
The hotel industry continued to benefit from the recovery in foreign guests in June. The year-on-year increase here amounted to 3.8%.
On the other hand, the Swiss were again slightly more attracted to foreign destinations than a year ago. In June, hotels recorded 0.5 percent fewer overnight stays by domestic guests than a year ago.
The definitive and absolute figures for overnight stays in June will be published by the FSO on August 5.
