Most Swiss hoteliers are looking positively towards the upcoming winter season, with many expecting higher revenues than the previous year, when overnight stays reached a new record high. 57% of Swiss hoteliers expect the same level of revenue for the 2023/24 winter season as the previous year, while 29% expect higher earnings. Price increases are likely to play a role in this. The majority (62%) of businesses have increased their prices for the upcoming winter season, citing higher energy costs, personnel costs, and inflation as the main reasons. The hotel industry is also facing a major challenge in the form of a persistent shortage of personnel. More than a third of hotels that train apprentices were unable to fill all their positions, and some could not find any apprentices at all. This is particularly noticeable in the mountains, where 60% of hoteliers have difficulty filling the advertised positions. There is no indication of an improvement in the situation.
