Online trading is under pressure. According to a survey by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), Swiss online retailers are facing increasing competition and a lack of personnel. The coronavirus-related boom is over. Nine out of ten retailers in Switzerland and Austria reported this in the survey published on Thursday. This is due to the decreased purchasing power due to inflation, which means that customers are more likely to spend their money on travel and events than on goods online. Two thirds of the surveyed online retailers also noticed an intensified competition. The buying behaviour has apparently shifted back in favour of offline stores. However, the situation regarding delivery chain bottlenecks has improved compared to the previous year. However, there is now a lack of personnel. Half of the surveyed companies said they had too few qualified employees. The survey was conducted for the sixth time and includes 598 online shops from various industries in Switzerland and Austria.
