Swiss parahotel industry with more guests in the third quarter

The Swiss parahotel industry recorded slightly more overnight stays in the third quarter of 2023. Almost two thirds of the guests counted in vacation apartments, campsites and collective accommodation came from Switzerland.
Specifically, overnight stays rose by 2.2% year-on-year to 7.37 million in the third quarter of the year, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Friday. Compared to the same period in the last pre-corona year 2019, the increase was as much as 7.8%. 63 percent of guests came from Switzerland.
Campsites accounted for the largest share. With 3.11 million overnight stays, they were responsible for a good 42 percent of all overnight stays generated in the parahotel industry. This is also 5.6 percent more than in the previous year.
Collective accommodation, which includes youth hostels and SAC huts, accounted for 2.12 million overnight stays (+6.4%) in the third quarter. In contrast, vacation apartments accounted for 2.14 million overnight stays, 6% less than in the previous year.
