Swiss Post is continuing to reduce its branch network as planned. Partnerships are currently being sought for the 170 locations affected.

In a press release on Tuesday, Swiss Post announced that it is seeking talks with the municipalities in which self-operated branches are being dismantled and replaced by postal agencies. It is not the case that Swiss Post simply makes decisions without consulting the offices concerned.

However, this is precisely what the Syndicom trade union is accusing Swiss Post of doing. In a statement, it demands that Swiss Post should retain its existing network of 770 branches and calls on all political players to actively oppose the plans to cut back. Full and barrier-free access to the basic postal service must be maintained.

Swiss Post, however, in the person of CEO Roberto Cirillo, continued to state on Tuesday that standing still was not an option for Swiss Post. For his part, Thomas Baur, Deputy CEO and Head of Swiss Post Network, said that Swiss Post could not wait. Nor did he know what exactly we should be waiting for.

However, Baur emphasized that no jobs would be cut. On the contrary: Swiss Post will continue to recruit new specialists in the future in order to remain innovative and develop further. Syndicom, meanwhile, is demanding guarantees from Swiss Post that it will not make a single redundancy.
