Swiss Radio and Television SRF comments on the rejection of the pension fund reform as follows:
"A 'no' vote was ultimately expected, but it is a surprise in this clarity. The fact that their own camp was not united took its revenge at the ballot box for the conservatives and the large business associations. In the last JRC survey, half of the SVP base stated that they were against the reform. And several business associations such as GastroSuisse and the Swiss Association of Master Bakers and Confectioners fought against the reform.
Another reason for the clear result is the aggressive campaign by the Federation of Trade Unions, the SP and the Greens. However, the miscalculation of the AHV is also likely to have undermined confidence in the authorities' proposal. And the reform did not convince those two thirds who would not have been affected by it. They would have had to reform the occupational pension scheme for a minority and around 70,000 part-time employees. With this reform, they were obviously not ready for it."
