Confidence prevails in Swiss tourism. According to a survey by Switzerland Tourism, tourism providers are expecting an increase of up to 12 percent in visitor numbers and overnight stays. At the same time, businesses are increasingly focusing on sustainability, although this still seems to be of little interest to guests.
However, growth is unlikely to be evenly distributed throughout Switzerland, as Switzerland Tourism announced on Thursday. Optimism is high - especially for the high season - in the tourist hotspots. Outside the hotspots, on the other hand, there is more caution, especially outside the high season.
Guests hardly interested in sustainability
Not least in the fight against overtourism, the tourism association wants to continue to work towards better seasonal and geographical distribution. Further progress is also to be made in terms of sustainability.
Many tourism businesses are making particular efforts to align their offers with public transport, as the Switzerland Tourism survey shows. Progress is also being made in the area of energy. In addition, many want to avoid food waste, for example by eliminating the breakfast buffet.
The behavior of guests is rather sobering. According to the industry representatives surveyed, only a very small proportion pay attention to whether a tourism business has sustainable measures, offers or corresponding certification.
