The Swiss government has expressed its solidarity with Ukraine's neighbouring country Moldova. On Wednesday, President Alain Berset welcomed President Maia Sandu to Bern, accompanied by three other members of the Federal Council. Sandu informed Berset, Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, Economics Minister Guy Parmelin and Justice Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider of the effects of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine on her country. In response, Switzerland has supplemented its existing development cooperation program for 2022 and 2023 with a humanitarian program, providing 26 million francs to assist with the reception of Ukrainian refugees in Moldova.

Three documents were signed in Bern on Wednesday: a declaration of intent to institutionalise a dialogue on work and employment, a statement of cooperation in the tourism sector, and a commitment to expedite and conclude ongoing negotiations on a social security agreement. The Moldovan President's program for Thursday includes a visit to a pharmaceutical company in Basel and a panel discussion at ETH Zurich.
