Switzerland Donates 1.5 Million to Aid Armenian Civilians

The Swiss government has allocated an additional 1.5 million Swiss francs to support the civilian population in Armenia. This brings the total Swiss aid to the region to date to an amount of 1.5 million Swiss francs. The funds will be used to support the most important humanitarian actors on the ground, according to the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA). Over 100,000 people have reportedly fled from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia in the last few days, according to a statement from the European External Action Service on Tuesday. They are currently living in precarious conditions; the Armenian authorities are doing their best to accommodate the refugees as best as they can. The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) has declared the situation in Yemen to be urgent. As a result, it is providing 1.5 million Swiss francs in humanitarian aid. Half a million francs of this will go to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), while the remaining funds will be distributed among the most important United Nations actors on the ground. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (EDA) has already committed one million Swiss francs to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for operations in the Nagorno-Karabakh region this year. The additional 1.5 million Swiss francs are intended to supplement this support.
