Switzerland exported 62,000 tons of chocolate to the EU last year. This made it the largest exporter of chocolate to the European Union, which is not a member of the confederation. In return, Switzerland imported around 24,000 tons of chocolate from the EU.
36% of chocolate imported into the EU in 2023 came from Switzerland, according to Eurostat, the European statistical office, on Thursday. The United Kingdom is in second place in this statistic with 61,000 tons. Ukraine (22,000 tons), Turkey (7,000 tons) and Norway (3,000 tons) followed with significantly smaller quantities.
EU member states exported a total of 867,000 tons of chocolate in 2023. According to the communiqué, a good third of this went to the UK. Switzerland was not one of the five largest buyers of chocolate from the EU.
