For the Syndicom trade union, the announced proposals for the basic postal service represent a reduction in the public service. Syndicom rejects measures that would worsen the basic postal service.

The simplification proposed by the Federal Council for the postal service for hard-to-reach households is tantamount to a reduction in the basic postal service, criticized Syndicom in a press release on Friday. The Federal Council is also disregarding the fact that the legislator has decided to tighten up precisely this area in 2021.

Switzerland needs an attractive basic postal service. This includes the continued reliable delivery of letters and parcels. This also includes easily accessible post offices with a full range of services and qualified staff.

The strengthening of digital means of payment is to be welcomed in terms of the expansion of public services, it continues. Digitalization must serve the people. Digitization projects should not lead to job losses, a deterioration in barrier-free access to public services or the circumvention of legal plans.
