System for Covid Certificates Will Definitely Be Shut Down

The Swiss government has announced that it will no longer issue Covid certificates from September and will also discontinue the Swiss Covid App. This follows the decision of the European Union to not extend the legal basis for the EU Digital Covid Certificate. The Swiss government argued that the stable epidemiological situation meant that the need for Covid certificates was no longer necessary and that travel was possible without them. Existing Swiss certificates stored in the Covid Certificate App can still be displayed and checked until their technical validity expires (two years after issuance). The Swiss Covid App, which was developed to assist cantons with contact tracing during the pandemic, will also be discontinued. The infrastructure will be dismantled from 1 September 2023, in accordance with the legal requirement to shut down the system when it is no longer needed to manage the pandemic.nnnnnnnnnn
