Teachers Take Action Plan to Address Staff Shortage

The Swiss Teachers' Association (LCH) and the cantonal teachers' unions of the German-speaking part of Switzerland are launching a campaign in the autumn to pressure the cantonal education authorities to take action against the teacher shortage crisis. The situation could have been avoided, according to LCH President Dagmar Rösler, and the quality of education and the Swiss workplace are now at risk. The campaign will be based on a public survey and will aim to raise public awareness of the issue. In the French-speaking part of Switzerland, the teacher shortage is not as severe, but physical and psychological violence against teachers is a problem, according to SER President David Rey. He called for prevention and the promotion of non-violent behaviour, as well as the involvement of parents, but noted that this requires resources. LCH and SER do not want to ban the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools, but they do call for the development of sensible pedagogical strategies and ethical guidelines. They also demand that teachers receive the necessary training and support to use AI responsibly and competently.nnnnnn
