The weather, which was far too mild for the time of year, continued on Christmas Day. Bern measured 13.5 degrees on Monday - a record. It has never been this warm in the federal city on Christmas Day since measurements began in 1864.

In Bern-Belpmoos, the weather service Meteonews reported that the temperature was as high as 15 degrees in the afternoon at 4 pm.

In fact, temperatures in western Switzerland exceeded those in Ticino for once on Monday. While 14.4 degrees were measured in Fribourg, it was 14.3 degrees at the warmest measuring station in southern Switzerland in Stabio TI and 12.8 degrees in Biasca TI, the record holder of the past few days.

Exceptionally high temperatures were also reached at high altitudes and north of the Alps on Christmas Day. In Adelboden in the Bernese Oberland, for example, 14.4 degrees were measured at 1350 meters above sea level.

This year, Switzerland has already recorded the warmest December 24th since records began. In Biasca TI, temperatures reached 21.8 degrees on Christmas Eve, according to the weather service SRF Meteo.

December temperature records had already been set in various places in Ticino on Saturday. In Locarno, temperatures reached 22.3 degrees, according to several weather services. This clearly broke the previous record of 20.9 degrees set on December 4, 1967.

Colder only at the turn of the year

According to Meteonews, the air will remain milder than average in the old year's week. On Wednesday, the zero degree line will rise slightly higher than on Monday, probably to 3200 to 3400 meters.

Colder air would not reach Switzerland again until the turn of the year. According to Meteonews, this also means that December will be the 11th month this year to achieve a surplus compared to the climate average. It was only too cool in April.
