The 120-year-old empty tympanum of the Parliament Building in Bern is being adorned with a mosaic. The work, titled "Tilo" in honour of one of the first Swiss National Councillors, began in the spring of 2022. The 246 ceramic plates of the mosaic, which reflect light differently, represent the 200 seats in the National Council and the 46 seats in the Council of States. The title of the work is a tribute to Tilo Frey (1923–2008), who was elected to the National Council in 1971, shortly after women were granted the right to vote and stand for election at the state level. The unveiling of the artwork is scheduled for 12 September, when the 175th anniversary of the Swiss Federal Constitution will be celebrated. At 18.48, the giant curtain at the Bundesplatz will be dropped, revealing the artwork for the first time.
