The Oberbaselbiet Region Cut Off from Rail Traffic

On Wednesday evening, the Oberbaselbiet region was cut off from railway traffic due to a cable fault that occurred during construction work at the Liestal BL railway station. This disruption affected S-Bahn, Interregio and Intercity trains between Basel and Olten, as well as goods trains. Passengers travelling between Basel SBB and Luzern, Arth-Goldau, Bellinzona, Lugano and Milano Centrale had to take the detour via Zurich Hauptbahnhof. Those travelling to or from Olten, Lenzburg and Aarau had to first go to Brugg in the canton of Aargau. The SBB initially announced that the disruption would last until 1.30am on Thursday morning, and warned that the morning commuter traffic could also be affected.
