The "Tages-Anzeiger" comments on the Yes to the 13th AHV pension and the No to the pension initiative as follows:
"It's a historic verdict: almost 60 percent say yes to a 13th AHV pension. Never before have Swiss voters accepted an initiative on the AHV. Never before has the left achieved a majority at the ballot box with an expansion of the welfare state. Never before has it won over so many middle-class voters." (...) "Today's referendum results clearly show the way forward for future AHV financing: despite the strong demographic pressure, one-sided reforms are not capable of winning a majority. An increase in the retirement age, for example, must be combined with an increase in the lowest pensions." (...) "The importance of this historic vote on Sunday cannot be overestimated." (...) "However, it is quite possible that working people and younger families will argue after the AHV Yes: Now it's our turn too. The big redistribution debate is not over - it's only just beginning."
