There are around 1500 public libraries in Switzerland

Libraries in Switzerland recorded around 46 million admissions in 2023. The total number of active users remained stable at 1.7 million, as did the total number of loans, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Monday.
In 2023, the FSO counted just under 1,500 publicly accessible libraries. On average, there are 16.7 libraries per 100,000 inhabitants in Switzerland. Other cultural institutions such as museums and cinemas are therefore much less well represented, the FSO noted.
8607 employees, 4337 of whom were paid, worked an average of 185 opening days per library. According to the library statistics, the average expenditure per library amounted to CHF 552,490. Physical admissions per facility increased on average from 26,200 to 30,900 between 2022 and 2023.
