After parliamentary group leader Aline Trede and former Federal Council candidate Gerhard Andrey, another potential candidate for the presidency of the Swiss Green Party withdrew on Friday. Greta Gysin from Ticino decided to focus her energies on other issues

It took her a long time to make up her mind, Gysin told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Friday. The office of President of the Greens had already appealed to her. However, she confirmed a report by the Ticino radio and television station RSI that she does not want to run.

At the moment, it is simply not possible. She has set her political priorities for the next few years, for example as President of the National Council's State Policy Committee (SPK). This will take time and she wants to do it well.

Andrey also wants to make an entrepreneurial contribution

Gerhard Andrey from Fribourg feels the same way and has also decided not to run for the presidency of the Green Party. He would rather focus on his position as a member of the National Council and on his software company, as Andrey wrote on his website on Thursday.

Politically and entrepreneurially, he wants to "contribute to the much-needed transformation of the economy", as can be seen from the entry on Andrey's website. CH Media and "Le Temps" first reported on his rejection as potential president of the Greens. Andrey ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Federal Council for the Greens on December 13.

Group leader does not want to

The Fribourg native's decision comes just a few days after Bernese National Councillor and parliamentary group leader Aline Trede also announced that she would not stand as a candidate. Lisa Mazzone from Geneva, who was voted out of the Council of States in the last federal elections, has not yet commented on a possible candidacy.

The application deadline for the Green Party presidency is February 4. The delegates will elect the new president at their meeting on April 6.

Fivaz also renounces

The Neuchâtel National Councillor Fabien Fivaz has also decided not to stand as a candidate to succeed Balthasar Glättli in the Green Party presidency. Fivaz announced this to the Keystone-SDA news agency on Friday. He wrote that he had seriously considered running as a co-president.

After careful consideration, he has decided to concentrate on his parliamentary mandate. He did not want to give up his work in two committees and the vice presidency of the parliamentary group. He also has fatherly duties. The party presidency would be difficult to reconcile with these and his parliamentary mandate.
