The 20 degree mark has been broken for the first time this year in Switzerland, in Ticino. On Thursday morning, 21.5 degrees were measured in Biasca, 21.9 degrees in the afternoon and even 22 degrees in Lugano-Agno. On the northern side of the Alps, it was around 15 degrees.

According to the weather service Meteonews, the northern foehn was responsible for the early summer temperatures in the southern canton. All temperature measurements above 20 degrees came from Ticino.

The city of Neuchâtel set a new January record with 15.1 degrees, as did Wynau in the canton of Bern with 15.2 degrees. Lucerne recorded 14.9 degrees.

It was much colder in eastern Switzerland on Thursday, where temperatures remained below the 10-degree mark across the board and precipitation was still expected in the afternoon, according to the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (MeteoSwiss).

It is expected to be wet and cooler on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. However, it will be mostly dry and sunny at the weekend. Temperatures of around 11 degrees are expected in the north on Sunday.
