The Züri Fäscht, the largest folk festival in Switzerland, begins today in Zurich at 5pm. It is usually held every three years, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is taking place four years after the last edition in 2019. The festival has its origins in 1951, when the city celebrated its 600th anniversary of joining the Swiss Confederation. This year, the traditional air show by the Patrouille Suisse has been cancelled due to environmental concerns, but a more eco-friendly drone show with 300 drones will take place instead. Additionally, a deposit system for PET bottles and aluminium cans has been introduced to reduce waste. Public transport will be running almost around the clock, with 600 additional S-Bahn trips and over 3000 additional tram and bus courses. The SBB will also be running additional long-distance trains during the two festival nights.
