The traffic jam in front of the Gotthard road tunnel heading south cleared up on Saturday evening. In the morning, vehicles were temporarily backed up for 22 kilometers in front of the north portal of the tunnel in Göschenen UR.
"No more traffic jams," the Viasuisse traffic service confirmed to the Keystone-SDA news agency shortly before 8.45 p.m.
At 10.00 a.m., travelers heading towards Ticino and Italy took up to 3 hours and 40 minutes longer than normal, as the Touring Club of Switzerland (TCS) announced on X (formerly Twitter). In the early afternoon, the length of the traffic jam had decreased, but still amounted to 18 kilometers.
As a result, the traffic jam slowly but steadily became shorter over the course of the afternoon and evening.
