Translator festival aller-retour under the motto “Exceeding”

With guests such as Lukas Bärfuss, Annette Hug and Anne-Sophie Subilia, the third edition of the Translators' Festival will take place in Freiburg on March 9. Those responsible for aller-retour want the motto "Transgression" to be understood linguistically and politically.
Translation stands for the transition from one language to another, whereby "the translators have room for their own interpretations", Camille Logoz, program director of aller-retour, was quoted as saying in a press release.
And so a discussion about Kim de l'Horizon's "Blood Book" kicks off this year's festival edition. In the novel, Kim de l'Horizon explores language, identity and the body. The two translators Rose Laborie, who translated the novel into French, and Silvia Albenaso, who translated it into Italian, will discuss it under the title "Blutendes Buch, wogende Sprachen".
It should also become clear on the festival day that the term "transgression" is not limited to language. It can also refer to non-compliance with social norms, a transgression of one's own boundaries or aggression, the press release continued.
Furthermore, "transgression" is understood politically. Further discussions will therefore focus on texts by dissident female poets from Russia and the French-language critical edition of Hitler's "Mein Kampf".
The linguistic diversity of Switzerland is on the program with the translation of Tolkien's "The Hobbit" into Surselvian. The musical finale is Bertholt Brecht's "Threepenny Opera" in French translation and in collaboration with the Neue Oper Fribourg.
The intercantonal ch foundation is behind aller-retour, the only translation festival in Switzerland. It launched the festival in 2019 and works together with the Looren Translators' House, the Centre de traducition littéraire de Lausanne and Pro Helvetia.
