Two fatalities after head-on collision in Mendrisio TI

Two people were killed in a traffic accident in Mendrisio TI on Friday evening. According to the Ticino cantonal police, a 30-year-old Swiss man from Lugano lost control of his vehicle on Via Carlo Maderno and collided head-on with an oncoming car.
The passenger of the 30-year-old, a 38-year-old Italian from the province of Varese, died at the scene of the accident, as did the driver of the vehicle, according to the police statement.
The occupant of the second vehicle, a 42-year-old Swiss woman from Lugano, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation. Via Carlo Maderno remained closed while the accident was being investigated.
