Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi will pay an official visit to Switzerland on Monday. This was announced by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the Ukrainian presidency on Sunday evening. Mr Zelensky will be received in Bern by President Viola Amherd and Federal Councillors Ignazio Cassis and Beat Jans.

This is Zelensky's first visit to Switzerland. However, the President's wife Olena Selenska and the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba have already visited the country. On Tuesday, Zelenskyi will give a speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos GR.

Zelensky and Amherd had already spoken on the phone on Friday. According to the Ukrainian presidential office, they discussed bilateral measures. Zelenskyi also thanked Switzerland for its support for Ukraine and for organizing the Ukraine conference in Davos.

On Sunday, at the invitation of Ukraine and Switzerland, more than 80 countries and international organizations discussed a peace plan proposed by Selenskyj at the level of national security advisors in Davos.

In it, Ukraine demands, among other things, the withdrawal of all Russian troops from the country, including from Crimea. Ukraine is also demanding the release of all prisoners of war and a special court to punish Russian representatives for crimes. Russia has so far rejected the peace plan as a farce.

Cassis: No peace without Russia

Agreement on basic principles for a peace solution at such a broad level could help to bring Russia to the negotiating table one day, Foreign Minister Cassis told the media in Davos. A step was needed to involve Russia in one way or another. Without Russia, there would be no peace.

China, which did not take part in the Ukraine conference, must also be involved as far as possible, said Cassis. Chinese Premier Li Qiang will also pay an official visit to Bern on Monday. He is also traveling on to the WEF in Davos.
