University Hospital Zurich sets up task force for heart surgery

The University Hospital Zurich has started to set up a cardiac surgery task force. The aim is to fully clarify previous irregularities at the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery. An unexpectedly high number of deaths occurred at the clinic between 2016 and 2020.
The hospital management regrets what happened at the time and wants to provide complete clarity, as the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) announced on Friday. The aim is to preserve the trust of patients, referring physicians and the public in the Department of Cardiac Surgery.
After the first indications of irregularities became known in 2019, the USZ initiated several investigations. Improvement measures were also implemented from 2020.
