The US ski resort operator Vail Resorts has definitively taken over the Crans-Montana ski resort. The transaction was announced at the end of November.
The US company thus took over 84 percent of the shares in the company operating the ski lifts and associated mountain businesses, as detailed in the announcement on Thursday. Vail also acquired 100 percent of the company that runs the region's ski schools - 80 percent had been announced. Eleven restaurants from the region were also acquired.
Vail's valuation for the resort's entire operating activities is CHF 118.5 million. The ski resort operator plans to invest 30 million francs in Crans Montana over the next five years.
In 2022, Vail Resorts had already taken over the Andermatt-Sedrun ski resort. The US winter sports giant paid CHF 149 million to purchase a 55% stake in Andermatt Swiss Alps, which is owned by Egyptian businessman Samih Sawiris.
In addition to the two ski resorts in Switzerland, Vail Resorts operates 39 other resorts in the USA, Canada and Australia. The portfolio includes famous ski resorts such as Vail and Bever Creek in Colorado, Park City in Utah and a majority stake in Whistler Mountain in Canada.
