A severed dog skull found in Valais belongs to a missing shepherd dog. According to the police, the four-legged friend was hit by a train. The picture of the dog's head had circulated on social media and sparked speculation.
Among other things, it was assumed that the dog had been killed because it had been mistaken for a wolf and poached. Other voices saw brutal animal abusers at work. According to media reports, a woman had found the severed animal skull and brought it to representatives of the Wolf Switzerland group because she thought it was the head of a wolf.
They immediately determined that it was the skull of a Belgian shepherd dog. The owner of such an animal had launched an appeal on social media after it went missing on December 31.
It is now clear that this dog died in an accident. Investigations have revealed that the animal was hit and killed by a train on January 3, the Valais cantonal police announced on Thursday. A search was carried out the same day on the route between Turtmann and Susten in collaboration with the Hunting, Fishing and Wildlife Service. Parts of the animal carcass were found on the tracks.
