The service union Verdi has called on Lufthansa ground staff at seven German airports to go on a one-day warning strike from Tuesday. It was not yet possible to say on Sunday whether there would be any impact on Swiss air traffic.
At the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, neither the airline Swiss nor Zurich Airport were yet able to provide any information about possible restrictions and flight cancellations. More detailed information is expected on Monday.
The trade union Verdi has called on Lufthansa ground staff to go on another warning strike on Tuesday. The strike at the Lufthansa locations in Frankfurt/Main, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne-Bonn and Stuttgart will begin at 4 a.m. on Tuesday and end at 7.10 a.m. on Wednesday, Verdi announced in Berlin on Sunday.
As all ground staff, from maintenance to passenger and aircraft handling, have been called out on warning strike, there will probably be major flight cancellations and delays, according to Verdi. According to Lufthansa, the 35-hour warning strike will affect more than 100,000 passengers. The airline is currently working on a special flight schedule, which will be published shortly, the company announced on Sunday. According to the information, different times will apply for non-passenger areas such as freight or technical services.
Lufthansa criticizes warning strike
According to the union, the background to this is the Group-wide collective pay negotiations for the approximately 25,000 employees on the ground - including at Deutsche Lufthansa, Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services, Lufthansa Engineering and Operational Services and other Group companies.
No agreement was reached in the third round of negotiations on February 12, 2024. The employers' offer from the previous round of negotiations was rejected by the vast majority of employees.
The airline criticized the warning strike, which is now being announced despite a significantly improved offer and agreed dates for talks. Chief Human Resources Officer Michael Niggemann said that the further warning strike would once again disproportionately affect both passengers and employees.
The three-day pilots' strike at Lufthansa subsidiary Discover will not end until midnight (23:59) this Monday. The strike by Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) had led to flight cancellations in Frankfurt and Munich at the weekend. The VC union has also called on pilots from the parent company Lufthansa to take part in a solidarity strike for their Discover colleagues on Monday morning. According to the airline, four departures are potentially affected during the planned strike period.
