There is an acute risk of flooding in the Onsernone, Maggia and Lavizzara valleys. This was announced by the authorities on Tuesday afternoon via the Alert Swiss alarm app.
In the village of Prato Sornico in the upper Maggia Valley, people are being asked to leave their homes near the river. They should also avoid cellars and underground garages. The authorities are also warning people not to drive or cycle through flooded streets.
According to the statement, proximity to bodies of water should always be avoided, as flood waves can also occur unexpectedly. Since the storm with heavy rainfall last weekend, the waters in Ticino have been carrying more water than usual. The upper Maggia Valley was hit particularly hard.
