Gamekeepers have shot another wolf in the Vaud Jura. The adult male from the Mont-Tendre pack was shot on Friday night in the municipality of Montricher. A DNA test will now confirm whether it is the lead wolf.

The cull was carried out as part of the decision to regulate the male lead wolf of the pack on Mont-Tendre, which came into force on December 1, the canton of Vaud announced on Friday. In application of the new Federal Hunting Ordinance, the Confederation had authorized the canton to target this animal, which is classified as particularly harmful. The shooting permit ran until January 31 of this year.

A DNA analysis will show whether the gamekeepers actually shot the lead wolf of the Mont Tendre pack (M351). To this end, the carcass was sent to the Institute for Fish and Wildlife Diseases at the University of Bern (FIWI).
