The Young Greens are recommending that the initiative for a 13th AHV pension be accepted. However, they voted against the Young Liberals' pension initiative at their annual meeting in Turgi, Aargau, on Saturday.

The people and cantons will decide on the two popular initiatives on March 3. The Young Greens also addressed the occupational pension reform that Parliament passed in the spring session a year ago. They rejected the bill, as they announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday evening. The referendum on the BVG reform is also due to take place this year.

The initiative "For a better life in old age" is backed by the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB). It demands a pension supplement equivalent to a 13th monthly pension for AHV pensioners.

With the popular initiative "For secure and sustainable old-age provision (pension initiative)", the Young Liberals want to link the retirement age to average life expectancy. In a first step, it would be increased to 66 for both sexes. After that, the retirement age would rise by 0.8 months for each month of additional life expectancy.
