Zurich Couples Remove Love Vows with the Partition Plate

On Wednesday afternoon, many declarations of love were saved on the Zurich Mühlesteg. Lovers were able to cut off their love locks. Shortly after 1 pm, two employees of the Tiefbauamt arrived with a cutting disc and a large pair of pliers to begin their unusual work: cutting off love locks. Many lovers had difficulty finding "their" lock. Thousands of locks have been hanging on the grille for decades, reminding of successful and broken relationships. The keys were thrown into the Limmat. Most of the locks were not collected on this afternoon and ended up in scrap metal, along with the grilles to which they were attached. No more rescue operations for love locks are possible. From Thursday, the Mühlesteg will be closed so that the renovation work can begin. On the night of August 24th, the "Love Bridge" will be dismantled and lifted out of the Limmat in three parts with a crane. The bridge is expected to be reassembled in November. Then, locks can be hung on the renovated bridge again.nnnnnnnnnn
