(Keystone SDA) All over Switzerland, women are taking to the streets on Wednesday to strike. In the 20 largest Swiss cities, feminist strike collectives will protest a variety of inequalities.
Various events are planned in numerous cities and communities. The larger demonstrations in the cities will take place in the late afternoon. In addition to the women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, transgender, agender and queer people (FLINTAQ) are called to the rallies and actions.
A protest against inequality in pensions is planned for 10.46 a.m. across Switzerland. According to the strike collective, women, unlike men, do not work for their pensions during the first 2 hours and 46 minutes of the working day. At 1:33p.m., women nationwide will protest income inequalities, citing free breastfeeding, at-home care and part-time work.
According to the information, women earn 43% less than men throughout their working lives. At 3.42 p.m., women work for free until 5 in the evening because of the wage inequality. To symbolize this inequality, protestors will make noise across the country at this time.
The demonstrations in the larger cities start between 4.30 p.m. and 6 p.m. There is also a rally planned on the Bundesplatz where Switzerland’s parliament resides. Feminist festivals and concerts take place in the evening.
