Zurich Airport with 16 percent more passengers in July

As in the previous months, significantly more passengers used Zurich Airport in July than a year ago. The values ​​from before the corona pandemic are gradually coming within reach.

According to a statement on Monday evening, a total of 2.92 million people traveled through Zurich Airport in July. Compared to the same month last year, this is an increase of 16 percent.

The level from 2019 before the corona pandemic was again not reached, but the airport is not too far away. The number of passengers was 93 percent of the value of 2019. For comparison: in June it was still 90 percent.

Meanwhile, on July 30 alone, with 107,969 passengers, more people traveled via Zurich Airport in one day than ever before in the wake of the corona pandemic, it was said.

More flights

Of the travelers counted at Zurich Airport in July, 2.12 million were local passengers departing or arriving in Zurich. This is an increase of 18 percent compared to the previous year. At 787,370 (+10%), the number of transfer passengers accounted for 27 percent.

The number of flight movements also increased significantly by 10 percent to 23,748. The average number of passengers per flight was 142, an increase of one percent compared to the previous year. Seat occupancy fell by one percentage point to 84 percent.

Further increasing sales in shops

Significantly more sales were made in the shops at the airport in July than in the previous year: Commercial sales increased by 13 percent to CHF 61.1 million, already exceeding sales in 2019.

The volume of freight handled in Zurich in July amounted to 30,121 tons. This means that freight fell by 16 percent compared to the previous year. Compared to July 2019, even a fifth less freight was handled.
