Retour au fil d'actualité

On Saturday morning, a fire broke out on the roof of the former cinema "Le Plaza" in Geneva. Firefighters faced a great challenge in fighting the fire, as they had to cut the copper cladding on the roof to do so. However, architects warned that the roof was not strong enough due to ongoing renovation work and the fire. Firefighters then fought the fire from a crane. Streets in the vicinity of the former cinema were closed due to the heavy smoke. The cinema, which closed in 2004, was one of the largest in Geneva and Switzerland, with 1250 seats. Renovation work was being carried out to reopen the building as a cultural centre in 2025. Local groups had been campaigning for its preservation. The building is located near Geneva's Cornavin station.nnnnnnnnnn
