The HPV vaccine is recommended for girls and women aged 11-14 as a basic vaccination, and for boys and men aged 11-26 as an additional vaccination. The number of Swiss adolescents vaccinated against HPV is increasing, but the vaccination rate varies from canton to canton. In the period 2017-2019, 59% of girls and 17% of boys were vaccinated, and in the period 2020-2022, 71% of girls and 49% of boys were vaccinated. The HPV vaccine is most effective when given before the first sexual contact and can help reduce cases of cervical cancer, as well as other cancers and genital warts in both sexes. Basel-Stadt, Freiburg and Wallis have achieved relatively high vaccination rates of 60% for boys and men, showing that with the right recommendation and information, a high vaccination rate is possible and the vaccine is well accepted.nnnnnnnnnnnn
