The city of Lausanne is looking for a new tower guard to replace Renato Häusler, who has held the position of "le guet" for over 20 years and is retiring in December. The position is part of a centuries-old tradition in Lausanne, which is one of the last places in the world to still have an active guard whose duties have remained unchanged since the Middle Ages. The guard's duties include calling out the hours from 10pm to 2am, as well as warning of any attacks or fires. The position is part-time, with a 55-60% workload. In 2021, Lausanne appointed its first female deputy tower guard. Across Europe, 58 cities in nine countries still practice the tradition of tower guards, including Germany and Denmark. In Switzerland, there are active guards in Lausanne, Bischofszell TG, Schaffhausen and Stein am Rhein SH.nnnnnnnnnnnnnn
