Retour au fil d'actualité
The Swiss Social Democratic Party (SP) has announced that it will not set any criteria for its nomination of a candidate for the Federal Council seat left vacant by Alain Berset. All interested party members can submit their candidacy until October 29th. A commission will then assess the candidates for their suitability. The candidates will also present themselves to the party members and the public at four public hearings in Geneva, Biel, Olten and Schaffhausen in early November. On November 25th, the party will nominate its ticket for the Federal Council. It is currently unclear whether other parties will challenge the SP's second seat in the Federal Council. So far, only one candidate, Mustafa Atici, has expressed interest. The 53-year-old Basel SP National Council member said "Yes, I want!" to the local medium "Primenews". He would be the first Federal Council member with a migration background. The Zurich Council of States member Daniel Jositsch will inform about a possible candidacy on September 5th. The Green Party and the GLP have indicated that they will not rule out an attack after Berset's announcement of resignation. It will become clearer at the end of October, after the Swiss federal elections on October 22nd. The Green Party has announced that those interested in running for the Federal Council elections in December must register with the party by November 3rd. After the elections in October, the party will meet on October 27th and November 10th to update its strategy for entering the Federal Council and to hear the candidates. It is clear that the Greens want to break the majority of the SVP and FDP.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
