The Canton of Valais has likely rejected a proposal for an accelerated process for the construction of large solar power plants in the Alps. After counting 119 out of 122 municipalities, the voting population rejected the corresponding decree with 53.17% of no votes. The cities of Sitten and Monthey have yet to publish their results. The voter turnout was 36.28%. The Valais Greens and environmental organizations had launched a referendum against the corresponding law. The new regulation would give the Valais government the authority to decide on the construction of large solar installations instead of the normally responsible cantonal building commission.
