Number of Asylum Applications Increases by Approximately 38 Percent

In August, 3001 asylum applications were registered in Switzerland, 832 more than in July. The main countries of origin of the newly registered asylum seekers were Turkey, Afghanistan, Eritrea, Syria and Algeria. Of the 3001 new applications, 2454 were primary applications, submitted by people who had no connection to people who had already sought protection in Switzerland. The most common countries of origin for these applicants were Turkey, Afghanistan, Algeria, Morocco and Syria. The remaining applications were secondary applications, submitted for example after births or family reunification or multiple applications. 595 applications were not entered into; in most cases, the Dublin Agreement was the basis of the decision. 621 people received asylum and 447 were provisionally admitted. 13,645 cases were pending at the first instance in August, 819 more than in July. 1,425 people left Switzerland in August, either voluntarily or because they were transferred to their country of origin or a third country. 188 asylum seekers were brought to the Dublin state responsible for them and 75 asylum seekers were taken over by Switzerland from other Dublin states. At the end of August, 65,406 people with protection status S were living in Switzerland. In August, 1,966 people were granted protection status S and 1,821 had their status S revoked because they had left Switzerland.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
