The Swiss National Fund is being called upon to increase its research into endometriosis. This was proposed by Middle National Council Member Benjamin Roduit (VS) and was accepted by the National Council with 106 to 76 votes and 9 abstentions. Roduit argued that one in ten women are affected by endometriosis and that early diagnosis is still in its infancy. He believes that more research is needed to develop the necessary instruments to stop the disease and improve the fertility and quality of life of those affected. In response, Federal Minister Guy Parmelin requested the rejection of the motion on behalf of the Federal Council. He pointed out that the National Fund already funds individual research projects related to endometriosis. He also stated that researchers have the opportunity to apply for additional funds for scientific projects. Earlier this year, Parliament called for improvements in the targeted funding of research into specific women's diseases and their treatment. The Federal Council was instructed to carry out targeted research into women's specific diseases and to ensure quality of treatment for these diseases.
