The Swiss National Council has approved a motion from the FDP-Fraktion to enable mobile providers to expand the fifth generation of mobile network (5G) by 2024 at the lowest possible cost. The existing precautionary limit values will not be increased. This is necessary as Switzerland is lagging behind in this technology, with 3000 applications waiting for approval. 5G is a key technology and the basis for other technologies such as autonomous driving. 90% of radiation comes from the user's device and not from the antenna, so the better the coverage quality, the less radiation is needed to establish a connection. The left-wing opposed the motion, arguing that radiation is harmful and that the needs of the population and the economy are already met. The Federal Council supports the motion and will inform the public and the industry about the future mobile network generation.
