Snow Falls at the Start of Autumn in Higher Altitudes

In the higher elevations of the Swiss Alps, snow fell overnight on Saturday. In the Valsertal in the canton of Graubünden, the snowfall line dropped to 1200 meters above sea level. For the start of autumn on Saturday, weather services in Graubünden and Eastern Switzerland predicted snowfall up to 1700 meters above sea level. On Saturday morning, "WetterOnline.ch" reported on the short message service X, formerly Twitter, with a picture of the highest village in Switzerland, Juf GR, covered in thick snow. Bivio in the municipality of Surses GR at the Julier Pass also showed a wintery white. At the Ofen Pass between Zernez GR and Müstair GR, the Swiss Touring Club (TCS) reported a snow-covered road. SRF Meteo reported 80 mm of precipitation on X in Vals GR over the last 24 hours. According to information from the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (Meteoschweiz), from the Centovalli to the middle Maggiatal, over 200 mm of rain fell, locally even 300 mm. Further northeast to the St. Gallen Rhine Valley, 50 to 100 mm were measured.
