A 29-year-old man was sentenced to a one-year prison sentence by the Appenzell District Court for illegally possessing a large arsenal of weapons and explosives. The sentence was suspended in favour of an outpatient psychiatric treatment. The man had embarked on a wild chase with the police through the Eastern Switzerland in 2019, carrying a "small arsenal of weapons and ammunition such as assault rifles, pistols and hand grenades". He had stated that he wanted to start a "world revolution". The court found that the man was not capable of recognizing the wrongfulness of his actions due to his mental state and therefore could not be convicted for the chase. The remaining charges were not contested. The court also ordered the man to pay a fine and contribute to the investigation costs. The sentence is not yet final.
