Thousands of people gathered in Bern on Saturday for the national climate demonstration. The rally, called by the Climate Alliance Switzerland, was held under the slogan "Act Now!" The demonstrators wanted to send a message for immediate climate protection and climate justice. They demanded that the biggest contributors to the crisis take responsibility and that the government give priority to climate protection. The Climate Alliance expected up to 20,000 participants. The march was planned from the Bollwerk near the train station to the Federal Square. The national climate demonstration took place 22 days before the next federal elections, and it was the last possible date for a large demonstration on the Federal Square, as the Bern city government will not allow such events in October.
